Northern Lights Casino Guide

Casinos were outlawed in Prince Albert and all of Saskatchewan until 1996. In 1993, White Bear First Nations decided to defy the ban and opened Bear Claw Casino. The government quickly shut down the property, but three years later, they caved and allowed casinos in the province.

In 1996, the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) was established and opened a number of casinos throughout Saskatchewan, including the Northern Lights Casino. The casino is a not-for-profit company with all net revenue invested in the local community. Northern Lights Casino employs more than 300 people, and 82% of them are First Nations.

Northern Lights Casino is located in Prince Albert, the third biggest city in Saskatchewan and home to 38,000 people. The property is 2.8 km from downtown, and there are buses every 15 minutes that will take you directly to the casino.

The casino has a triangular roof, and along the side of the property are upside-down triangles that are based on traditional indigenous designs. The casino is also lit up in different colours, mimicking the Northern Lights. Once you step into the casino, you are met with a typical open gaming floor filled with slot machines.

Dining Experience at Northern Lights Casino

The Northern Lights Casino has two dining options: the NorthStar Restaurant, which serves classic dishes like burgers, steak, and fish and chips, and Deli & Bar, which offers budget-friendly fast food.

The NorthStar Restaurant is open daily from 9 am until 9 pm and is a great place to get a margarita or strawberry daiquiri. The menu is filled with a bit of everything, from steak and eggs to their signature bannock taco, which features a stack of delicious meat piled onto fry bread. We also recommend trying the shepherd’s pie with incredibly tender lamb and smooth mashed potatoes.

The Deli & Bar is open from 11 am until 2 am every day. You can get basic meals such as hot dogs and sandwiches. There is also a special section called Kookum’s Kitchen, which whips up some very tasty fried chicken and wedges.
