History and Background
In 1998, Falls Management Group purchased the land that previously housed the transformer station building for the Ontario Power Company near Horseshoe Falls. In 2001, construction began on the ambitious project, which ended up costing $1 billion. Amazingly, part of the old transformer station built in 1904 forms a section of the east facade of the casino.
Fallsview Casino Resort took just over three years to build, and on June 10, 2004, it was finally opened to the public. The casino is owned by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) but the day-to-day operations are managed by Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment, which owns the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. The two parties agreed on a 21-year licensing contract.
