This England side are among the favourites to win Euro 2024, and the group stages are often full of potential banana skins. This Serbian side is capable of surprising, considering its team is full of top players who ply their trade throughout the best domestic leagues in Europe. We also firmly believe that manager Gareth Southgate would not allow any signs of complacency to leak into this England team.
Serbia have not qualified for the last four editions of this competition, meaning the players have minimal experience playing in major football tournaments. However, a glance at their squad will tell you they have plenty of talent to upset a few teams this tournament.
How did they qualify?
Serbia were in a group of five teams and would have fancied their chances of qualifying. It wasn't exactly plain sailing, but they did end up three points ahead of third-placed Montenegro. They also were four points behind Hungary. A team that many consider to be a dark horse for the Euros 2024.
England, in contrast, really impressed in qualifying winning six and drawing two of their games. After beating Italy away from home early on in the group, qualifying looked a certainty. The only downside for this England team is that they did not perform well in the most recent friendlies, losing to Brazil and relying on a last-minute goal to draw against Belgium at home.
Team Analysis
England should have complete control of this game. Serbia have some players capable of producing moments of quality themselves, but as a unit, this England side is considerably stronger. The strike force for Serbia is capable of giving any team significant headaches, so the defence of England, which is significantly less potent than their attack, will need to be switched on for the entire game.
